PGE Shut Off Map | Why Did PG Power Shut Down?

PGE shut off map states; the electricity has been restored to around 335000 clients in northern California location claimed by the Pacific Gas & Electric (PGE). This happened after thousands of people were disconnected from the grid in order to put a stop to the equipment from causing the forest fire when the wind is the strongest.

The utility says the shutdown affected approximately 345,000 customers in parts of 34 counties and 17 tribal communities, the largest shutdown this year. San Joaquin and Kern counties were removed from the list in October, as per a report.

Each customer account represents roughly two to three people.

The shutdowns came as extreme fire hazard returned too much of Northern California, including winds of up to 100 km / h in the Sierra, the strongest wind event of the season. A red flag warning covered much of the region from Modesto to the Oregon border by Tuesday evening.

What areas are affected by PG&E power outage?

The counties that are likely to be affected include Alameda, Alpen, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Fresno, Glenn, Humboldt, Kern, See, Madera, Marin, Mariposa, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Tehama, Trinity, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba.

Some customers in 17 tribal communities are also affected.

The PG&E was notifying all the affected users by sending text messages and email.

If you too are fallen into the outage map, it doesn’t mean that you have lost power, it’s just some work under progress or bad weather. Just wait till the PG&E shut off map normalize.

Why did PG&E shut down?

PG&E equipment has been linked to more than 20 forest fires, including the deadly campfire of 2018. The utility updated its public safety shutdown plan in 2019 to accommodate shutting down major transmission lines in fire-promoting weather conditions.

This means more communities have the potential for days of blackouts as PG&E preemptively turns off the power, waits for the weather, and then checks every inch of the dead lines to make sure it’s safe to turn it back on.

PG&E stated that there are currently no business interruptions.

The utility announced that it will continue to monitor the effects of COVID-19 in its 48 counties coverage area. As the pandemic impacts local communities, they understood the potential for increasing financial problems for customers as schools and businesses close. As more people stay at home for longer periods, households could see an increase in energy use, the press release said.

“Working from home while caring for children and teenagers increases the stress in an already anxious environment,” said Laurie Giammona, PG & E’s chief customer officer and a senior vice president. “At PG&E, we know that electricity and gas usage is likely to increase for many customers who social distance and stay home. We want to help our customers with sensible advice and easy-to-use tips to reduce the impact on their budget. “

How do you find out if PG&E is shutting off power?

According to latest report, PG&E can shut off power to its distribution and transmission lines to prevent its equipment from starting forest fires during its summer and fall. These events are known as PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).

Because some distribution and transmission lines for San José are in areas susceptible to forest fires outside the city limits, PG&E PSPS events could affect anyone in San José. The power outages can last up to seven days.

Can PG&E shut off my power?

Since everyone in San José is a PG&E customer for power delivery, anyone could be affected by a PG&E PSPS if power is turned off in your area.

San José Clean Energy only offers power generation services. PG&E provides electricity and owns, operates and maintains all transmission and distribution infrastructure that powers households and businesses, including customers of San José Clean Energy.

If you have solar on the roof, your modules will likely NOT work during a power outage unless you have a dedicated inverter or battery storage.

When do PG&E shutdowns happen?

Ultimately, it is at PG & E’s discretion to evaluate real-time and on-site information to determine whether to call a PSPS. PG&E said these factors could include: red flag warnings (weather events that could result in extreme fire behavior), low humidity, forecast sustained winds above 40 km / h, gusts above 45 km / h, and dry fuel condition .

Depending on where you live, you may be able to get very good records of how long the outages have lasted. I’m not sure if it’s federal, state, or utility, but here in Ohio you can call the utility and get a record of past outages.

There is no easy answer. The trellis is like a tree with one or more main trunks and many branches and innumerable branches. Or here in Ohio, the typical large utility company (there are four of them) has about 1.7 million branches or individual customers.

During a major event where there are many failures, the main task is to choose the order in which failures should be resolved. Most customers are usually addressed first. So if you’re the last person on a rural distribution chain and the only person affected by the outage, don’t expect to be up and running again anytime soon.

Other countries have a wide variety of service levels. But here in the US it’s pretty amazing how well things are managed given the complexity of the system. It just keeps getting better.

However, the utilities won’t get what they want if they don’t make their customers feel like they are getting proper service. Most of them are smart enough to know this and act on it.

How long does it take PG&E to restore power?

PG&E investigates situations outside of the emergency (check measuring device) and communicates the results to a customer within seven days of the customer’s request. It can normally take 24 hours to restore power outage to PG&E.

Check-meter appointments between October 15 and December 15 of each year are scheduled within 10 working days. If an external meter test is required, PG&E will communicate the results to the customer within 30 days. If access to the client’s premises is required, an appointment is required.

Outage to comply with the service guarantee will result in a $30 credit on the customer account. An automatic credit to the customer account will only be applied if PG&E misses a scheduled appointment.

If the appointment is scheduled beyond five working days, the customer must notify PG&E in order to receive the credit. If PG & E’s documents show that such planning was carried out at the customer’s request, the credit will not apply.
