Skype for Business, formerly known as Microsoft Lync Server, is a Unified Communications (UC) platform that integrates common channels for business communication and online meetings, including instant messaging (IM), presence, voice over IP (VoIP), voicemail and File transfers, video conferencing, web conferencing, and email.
Skype for online Business can be deployed locally, in the cloud, or as a hybrid service. Clients can run on Windows operating systems, Android phones and tablets, and Apple iOS devices. The Skype for individual business client can also be configured in a Lync Server 2013 environment. The platform is sometimes referred to as S4B, SFB, SfB and Skype4B.

Microsoft Skype for Business Online will be transformed into Microsoft Teams in the coming months and years. While Skype for Business will continue to be available to local customers using Skype for Business Server, Skype for Business Online will most likely be discontinued at a later date. Existing customers can continue to use Skype for Business Online until they are ready to transition.

For the best experience with Mac clients and an up-to-date infrastructure, we recommend all customers to migrate to Office 365. Skype for Business Server 2015 customers should download and install at least the cumulative update for Skype for Business Server 2015 version 9319.272 or higher. Lync Server 2013 customers should consider upgrading their installation to Skype for Business Server 2015 or downloading the latest cumulative Lync Server 2013 update, version 8308.974 or later. Lync Server 2010 is not supported. Instead, we recommend customers to continue using the Lync for Mac 2011 client.

If you haven’t already installed Skype for Business, you can download and install it from your Office 365 homepage.
- Sign in to your Office 365 account at office.com.
- Click the Settings icon in the right corner of your screen.
- Select the Office 365 link under My app settings.
- Choose Software.
- Click the Skype for Business link in the left column:
- Choose your preferred language
- Choose the version that suits your Office programs
- Click Install to download Skype for Business
Note: If Skype for Business is not listed, contact your administrator or install Skype for Business with Office 365 ProPlus.
- Choose Run to start the download
- Click Yes to confirm
- If Skype for Business is bundled with your Office 365 programs:
- Choose your preferred language
- Choose the version that suits your Office programs
- Click Install to download Skype for Business
- Choose Run to start the download
- Click Yes to confirm.
- When the installation is complete, close the installation panel and start Skype for Business.

Skype for business not working
